International Conference on Philippine Studies “Exploring the Philippines: Perspectives from Russia and Beyond”
25-26 October 2024

The Institute of Asian and African Countries of Lomonosov Moscow State University and its Department of Philology of Southeast Asian Countries, Korea and Mongolia are glad to invite our colleagues and young researchers from different countries to take part in the International Conference on Philippine Studies “Exploring the Philippines: Perspectives from Russia and Beyond” to be held on October 25-26, 2024 at the IAAS of Lomonosov Moscow State University (Moscow, Russia). The conference is dedicated to the 270th Anniversary of Lomonosov Moscow State University.

The purpose of the conference is to present the main directions and achievements of the contemporary  researches on the Philippines, and to enhance the scientific exchange and cooperation between the Philippine studies scholars in the Russian Federation and other countries.

Dates:  October 25-26, 2024.
Venue: Institute of Asian and African Countries of Lomonosov Moscow State University
(Mokhovaya Street, 1, bldg. 1, Moscow City, Russia).

Format: on-site and online (via Zoom).

To participate, abstracts of about 150 words (excluding references) and author’s data to be submitted by September, 2 via the Registration Form: https://forms.yandex.ru/u/66a5fbb75056903cc54c0cf8/

We cordially invite for participation the researchers, lecturers, MA and PhD students of higher educational institutions in Russia, Southeast Asia and other countries conducting research on the Philippines in such areas as History, Economics, Literature and Linguistics, Culture, Ethnography and related disciplines.

The scope of the conference includes, but not limited to:

• Cultural Anthropology Today: The Philippines and the World
• Languages and Literature of the Philippines: a view from Russia and from abroad.
• History and Religions of the Philippines: a view from Russia and from abroad.
• Socio-political and Economic Development of the Philippines as a region of the Global South.
• The Philippines and ASEAN Countries: Interaction Strategies.

Conference sections will be organized based on the topics of the selected submissions.
Section report — 20 min., discussion — 5-7 min.

The conference will include presentations by several Keynote speakers from among the leading Philippine studies scholars in Russia and Southeast Asia (TBA).

Languages of the conference – English, Russian.

No Registration fee charged.
The Organizing Committee does not cover any travel or accommodation expenses of the Participants.

After the conference selected reports wiil be invited for publication in the Moscow State University Journal “Vestnik MGU” (MSU Herald. Oriental Studies Series).
